About that chip
The photo above is what a fresh rock chip looks like up close. Small, ugly, and easy to ignore. Please do not ignore it. Colorado is rough on glass. A cold night, a hot defroster in the morning, one good pothole, and a chip the size of a dime turns into a crack that runs across the whole windshield. At that point repair is off the table and you need a replacement.
Caught early, a chip smaller than a quarter can usually be repaired in about half an hour. The resin fills the break, stops it from spreading, and clears up most of what you can see. If you carry comprehensive coverage, most insurance companies waive your deductible on a chip repair because it saves them the cost of a new windshield later. So a fast repair often costs you nothing.
